Collective imaginery feeds on utopian architecture: from ideal Renaissance cities to science fiction books or films, from children’s drawings to experimental scientific and sociological research. Each representation of the imagination is fitted within an architectural setting.
Architecture’s imaginery feeds on utopian visions. Some projects are more daring than other ones, rising from extreme natural environments, conversing with the cultures in which they are set, and by which they are inspired and enhanced. These projects do not always come to life, yet they leave a mark, they become a creativity reservoir for new design ideas, waiting for their time to come.
THE FINANCIAL TOWER LUANDA
The iconic building, a 35 floors high multifunctional tower hosting hotel, residential, offices and shopping center, contributes to create a new and dynamic image for the city of Luanda and for the entire country of Angola. The unique, strong and original “red” façade, irregularly shaped and opened with a series of terraces and cuts at various levels, is an evident reference to the local nature and colors.
ACADEMIA DE GESTÃO DA HOSPITALIDADE ANGOLANA
The High School currently forms students especially in the strategic field of tourism: hotel management, catering, food and beverage. The new construction is connected to an existing one. It accommodates public spaces as bar, canteen, free area, studio-lounge and a large ballroom on the ground floor, and various working areas including kitchens, washing areas, storage spaces, launderettes.
CABINDA BUSINESS HOTEL, HOSPITALITY AND WELLNESS
The unusual layout of Cabinda Business Hotel presents a double structure aimed at combining the contemporary resort’s functional needs with the forms of the traditional architecture of Angola. A solid lower base emphasizes the strong relationship with the earth, while a suspended upper part hosts the rooms. Staggered glass facades open up the hotel towards the internal garden and the nature outside.
CREATIVITY HUB, FOSTERING KNOWLEDGE IN ANGOLA
A new place to study, work and promote culture and research: the project acts as a cultural hub bringing together activities related to art, design, and creativity. The masterplan creates a new urban system of buildings and spaces that sit higher than the existing ground plane, favoring natural undulations and giving the whole project a strong visual identity. Each building/department represents a unique interpretation of the masterplan architectural language.
MASTERPLAN FOR THE NEW COMMERCIAL HARBOUR OF CAIO
A masterplan for a new development in the commercial harbor of Caio, Republic of Angola. The project allows workers and local community to benefit from new infrastructures and housing. It develops a linear and recognizable architectural language, that reinforce the territorial identity of its inhabitants.
